Sigh, i’m sorry for being out for around 2 weeks, i had alot on my hands.. my exams.. a wedding and a bunch of other stuff and now its getting harder and harder for me to find time to blog but anyway i’m going to try and maintain a steady pace now.. (try .. =().. Okay so enough whining.. time to get down to business.

First question: Why Spider Player?

Most Obvious Answer: Its as good as any other music player around and its much lighter, plus it has some very cool features.. maybe not THAT practically relevant but cool nonetheless and I’m a sucker for those things =P

Right so after that done lets get back to the classic pro/con analysis thing that we all love so much (and are too lazy to replace.. yes .. lazy indeed) but before that.. let me be clear.. my point of view tends to get slightly biased when i’m reviewing things that have potential..  so with that said.. bear in mind that despite my best efforts to end up with a clear and objective view of this particular software.. i might sound a little pro-get-this-softwarish…. With that out of the way lets get to the PROs:

PROs:

  • Lite (Understatement of the year), talk about a program that uses very little of your computers memory..
  • It plays music from the system tray
  • Its significantly smaller in terms of setup-size and disk space usage
  • Looks much better than winamp (and its cheesey skins)
  • Okay this is the coolest thing about it.. it fades into the next song i.e. the next song in your playlist.. it doesn’t abruptly end the music.. it just melds the last 2 seconds of the previous track with the next one giving it a very cool and strangely soothing effect
  • Theres a significant change in terms of sound quality, thats right.. it actually does sound better than other players

CONs:

  • It doesn’t have a library feature, not at all
  • you can’t actually en queue songs in your playlist.. you have to arrange them in the order that you want to listen to them
  • Needs more plugins etc

Overall Analysis and Final verdict:

Its different, i like it to be very honest its a pleasant change.. so what if you don’t have a library.. as long as you can sort by artist and have a nifty little search feature you’re good to go and the biggest factor for me is the sheer lite-ness of this music player, its like it doesn’t exist at all.. secondly the innovative features such as the songs fading into each other and the player turning transparent and fading into the background etc are symbols of hope =P yes hope.. this player shows a LOT of potential and is constantly being updated.. in my opinion its a software thats definitely worth a try and is one of the software’s that we should keep a look out for all in all i rate it 4.65/5.
